Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford grateful rugby league is back this year
Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford is excited for the Super League restart and is grateful that the game has been able to return this season.
The Super League season gets back underway on August 2 after it was suspended on March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the Giants facing Leeds at Headingley this Sunday.
Woolford said: “We are all grateful that we are able to get back and play some rugby league this year.
“I’m pretty confident we will come back and hit the ground running.
“I’ve got some (selection) headaches this week. We’ve had a good period to get everyone fit and I think 29 of a squad of 31 will be available for selection.
“We’ve got to look at the six again rules and select what team is best for that.”
Woolford confirmed that Ashton Golding, who moved to Huddersfield from Leeds in the off-season, will make his Giants debut against his former club this weekend.
Woolford added: “He did everything right in the pre-season for us and defensively he is outstanding.
“He is such a leader for someone at the start of his career. He is a real mouthpiece for our team and he has been training for us since we’ve got back and I can pretty much confirm that he will play this week.”
