Millward dismisses Salford speculation

Leigh coach Ian Millward has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

Millward, 50, returned to Leigh for the 2010 season and guided them to a third place finish in the Championship, before they suffered the disappointment of a home defeat against Sheffield in the first round of the play-offs.

The defeat meant that the Centurions are not eligible to apply for a Super League licence in 2012, and media reports have linked the former St Helens and Wigan coach with a move to Salford.

However, the Australian said: “I was made aware of a press report in the Manchester Evening News linking me with a move to Salford next season, the newspaper article was totally unfounded and I would like to draw a line under it.

“I am delighted with the progress we have made this year at Leigh Centurions. However, it is only the first phase of a three year plan and I am looking forward to seeing that plan through.”
