Warriors focused on final prize

Wigan prop Andrew Coley insists the hunger for revenge will feed the Warriors’ desire to go all the way to Old Trafford when they face defending Engage Super League champions Leeds Rhinos at Headingley on Saturday.

Just two weeks after crashing to an agonising 27-26 play-off defeat at home to Leeds, Wigan have the chance to set the record straight with a place in the Engage Super League Grand Final at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday October 2 awaiting the winners.

The Warriors bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Leeds with an emphatic victory over Hull KR last Friday and Coley expects the 2010 League Leaders to build on that performance this weekend.

“We showed on Friday night that we’ve got back into form and bounced back from the disappointment of two weeks ago,” Coley told SLTV. “Leeds are a quality team, that’s why they’re champions. They know how to win these sort of games so we’re going to have to be good to get the result.

“We came through the game on Friday unscathed so hopefully we’ll be able to carry a bit of momentum through to the next game.”

Wigan haven’t won at Old Trafford since the inaugural Super League Grand Final in 1998 and Coley knows how important it is to the town and the club to improve on that record.

“Old Trafford is a goal for us,” said Coley. “Obviously our first goal was to finish at the top of the league, which we have done, and now our next goal is to get to the Grand Final. Our focus hasn’t changed, it’s about realising what is at stake this weekend.

“It’s important for us as a group of players and for the coaching staff. Everything that we’ve achieved so far this year counts for nothing if we don’t get a result so we’ll all be very disappointed if we don’t make it to the Grand Final.”
