What’s in the papers
Newcastle Thunder have launched an audacious bid to replace Toronto Wolfpack in Super League, according to a report in the i newspaper. Thunder could buy out the struggling Wolfpack and take their place in Super League.
Toronto are facing legal action from players who are due pay, according to The Mirror. The players’ union has asked for a decision on Toronto’s future to be delayed while the players get their issues resolved.
Former England coach Wayne Bennett must stay in quarantine for 14 days, after the South Sydney Rabbitohs coach admitted dining out, a breach of the NRL’s coronavirus protocols. He will miss their game against his former side Brisbane on Friday night.
Hull KR coach Tony Smith says in The Sun, he hopes his players learn lessons from the NRL, ahead of their return to action at the weekend.
Wakefield have confirmed the departure of George King, reports the Yorkshire Post, but still have five other players whose futures remain uncertain.
