McCormack: Scotland must improve

Scotland coach Steve McCormack knows that his side have to improve following their defeat to Wales at the weekend.

The Scots were heavily beaten 60-22 and now face a difficult trip to France to re-ignite their European Cup campaign.

“It’s not going to get any easier for us,” he said. “This group of players have always been underdogs wherever they’ve played. France are a formidable side. We’re really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get back on the field after that performance.”

“We were in this game until midway in the second half. We went up the field again and got good field position but kept dropping the ball early in the tackle count. But we didn’t take the chances that Wales took. They took every chance and were very clinical. We weren’t and they closed the game down and took advantage of our errors.

“But lots of positives came out of the game. We had four new caps today, we’ve had a good camp and it’s always difficult against Wales. They’re the European Champions and for large periods of the game we were right in there. We need to learn to take our chances.”

The winner of this season’s European Cup will join England, Australia and New Zealand in next year’s Four Nations.
