Eastwood will be fit: Greenberg

Greg Eastwood will be fit for the NRL‘s early rounds despite receiving surgery on both wrists, according to Canterbury chief Todd Greenberg.

It was decided that Eastwood, 23, should undergo operations on both arms after medical issues with both became apparent.

The Bulldogs’ Chief Executive Todd Greenberg says that the decision to operate was made in an attempt to both correct the problem and to limit Eastwood’s absence.

“Greg has surgery before Christmas to re-align two previous fractures,” Greenberg said.

“The injuries were originally sustained while playing for New Zealand and with Leeds in the Super League.

“The surgeries to correct the problems were successful, however he’ll be in plaster until early February.

“Once the plaster comes off, Greg will have scans to see how he’s healing and to assess just how long he will be out.

“Our medical staff have been very happy with progress thus far and we’re certainly confident that he’ll be back on the field in the early part of the season.”

The former Brisbane second row has joined the club for a second spell after failing to settle in the UK with Leeds.

He spent the 2009 season with the Bulldogs after visa issues prevented him making the move to Super League.
