Bulldogs confirm Tandy arrest

Canterbury have released a statement confirming forward Ryan Tandy‘s arrest for his involvement in an alleged betting scam.

Tandy, 29, was arrested by NSW police in central Sydney yesterday morning and charged with giving false and misleading information to the state Crime Commission.

Tandy, a former Hull KR player, has been released on bail.

“The Bulldogs will continue to cooperate with all requests from both NSW Police and the NRL,”  Canterbury chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

“Given that this matter is currently in the hands of the NSW Police, the Club will make no further comment at this stage.”

Meanwhile, NSW police have also released a statement, in which they confirmed an investigation into illegal betting activities relating to last season’s North Queensland versus Bulldogs match.

A series of raids on homes across Sydney have also been executed, the statement said.

Firearms and Organised Crime Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis added: “Police are treating this investigation seriously, it’s not a game this is real life, and Police will continue with their investigations in an endeavour to uncover the truth and ensure justice is done.

“Detectives will continue to use every available resource in uncover the truth and complete their investigation.”

News of the arrest has also drawn a response from NRL boss David Gallop, who says the police inquiry is entirely appropriate.

“We have always believed, following our initial inquiries, that the Police were the appropriate people to further investigate concerns and we appreciate the resources they have invested into doing so,” he said.

“It remains a Police matter and any comment on the investigations as they continue should be through the Police until we are advised otherwise.”
