Griffin ‘ready to coach’

Anthony Griffin has assured Brisbane fans about his ability to lead the club out of adversity, after taking over from recently sacked head coach Ivan Henjak.

Griffin, a former assistant with Melbourne who coached Redcliffe to Queensland Cup glory in 2006, has no qualms about taking over.

“I am ready to coach – I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t,” he said.

“The coaching game is a funny game. The media is always speculating about it.

“It has happened a couple of times to me – we have all been hired and fired.

“But the management here have asked me to do a job and I just want to get the team prepared.

Griffin is not well-known amongst NRL supporters and enjoyed only a short playing career with the Brothers club in the Brisbane Rugby League.

Despite his limited playing achievements, Griffin has every confidence in himself as a coach.

He added: “I have been doing this for 18 years so I know the coaching game.

“I don’t have a profile, I am not an ex-player, I am only here because I know the coaching game.”

Griffin’s first match as head coach will be against Melbourne on Saturday.
