Webb scoops Player of the Round award

Leeds Rhinos full-back Brent Webb has been crowned Frontline Index Player of the Round following his outstanding performance in last Friday’s Engage Super League Round 5 match against Salford City Reds.

The former New Zealand full-back amassed 982 index points to edge out the ever-impressive James Roby for the top spot. Webb had a remarkable attacking streak making five clean breaks and beating nine defenders on his way to an overall total of 176 metres with the ball.

Leeds Rhinos team mate Kevin Sinfield is still leading the race for the final reward after gaining the most points in a round following his Round 2 total of 987, narrowly ahead of Webb’s score. Sinfield is represented in this week’s Frontline Index Team of the Round along with team mate Kallum Watkins.

Joining James Roby in the Team select from St Helens is James Graham following their 27-16 defeat against Harlequins RL, also from that match is Quins centre Tony Clubb.

Taking up the wings in the Frontline Index Team of the Round are Huddersfield Giants player Jermaine McGilvary and Wigan Warriors’ Josh Charnley.

Also included in the team are Hull FC captain Craig Fitzgibbon, Warrington Wolves second row Ben Westwood, Catalan Dragons player Jason Baitieri, Hull KR’s Blake Green and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats player Paul Johnson.

Points are calculated from every action made by players, every involvement is given a points value depending on the importance and frequency of the action. For example a try would be the highest scoring value, with actions such as tackles and carries scoring smaller values. Mistakes such as handling errors or penalties conceded would incur negative values.

At the end of a match, all the players’ actions will be added together to give a game score. The 13 individuals with the highest scores in each position on the field of play will earn inclusion in the Frontline Index Team of the Week with the highest scoring individual earning the Frontline Index Player of the Week title.

The player with the single most outstanding performance during the regular season will win the Frontline Index and be presented with a £1,000 cheque at the 2011 Engage Super League Man of Steel dinner.
