Scruton extends Bradford contract

Nick Scruton has signed a new three-year contract with Bradford that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2014 season.

The prop forward joined the Bulls from rivals Leeds Rhinos in 2009 and has established himself as a key player at Odsal, making 59 appearances.

Bradford coach Mick Potter said: “Nick’s an important player for the club and he’ll be moving into the best part of his career. As a front rower, I think the best is yet to come from Nick. I’m very happy he’s going to stay at the Bulls and he will be a good player for a long time.”

Scruton said there was never a question of him leaving the club.

“I think we’re going in the right direction. It’s been a different club every year I’ve been here with the wholesale changes. But this year I think it was for the better,” he said.

“Mick’s got the team he wants and hopefully you’ll see us gel over the next couple of years and become a side to be reckoned with. This season we’re just trying to get better week by week and see where that takes us.”

The 27-year-old made his debut for Leeds in 2002 and has also had a spell on loan at Hull FC.
