Preview: South Wales Scorpions v Swinton Lions

South Wales Scorpions are hoping to boost their attendance – and their chances of victory – by admitting children free of charge as part of the Co-operative “Kids Go Free” campaign.

South Wales director of rugby Mark Rowley said: “It will be a tough game for us.

“But with the game being free entry for children, plus with Neath RFC season ticket holders able to come in for a reduced price, we hope to have a large crowd to give our lads the support that they need.”

Swinton Lions have won all five of their Co-operative Championship One fixtures this year.

Chris Tyrer (ankle) and Sam Reay (hand) both face late fitness tests after picking up knocks during Swinton’s 38-30 win over London Skolars last week.

However, Lions coach Steve McCormack could be boosted by the return of Lee Wingfield after a two-week lay-off with a back problem.

McCormack said: “Lee trained on Tuesday night and we’re hopeful he’ll be OK, but we’ll monitor him as the week goes on.”

The Lions coach added: “We showed a lot of character last week, and going away to South Wales is another tough challenge.

“It’s the same against every team in Co-operative Championship One – South Wales are a team that’s improving, and if you don’t play well then you end up losing.”
