Netherton set for Fev debut

Kirk Netherton could make his Featherstone Rovers debut after confirming a season-long loan deal from Widnes Vikings.

Rovers coach Daryl Powell said: “Kirk has the ability to score tries from near the line, and he’ll add real options and variety to our squad.”

However, Tony Tonks continues to be ruled out as he recovers from an operation on his knee.

The powerful prop is expected to miss another three weeks of action as Rovers set about trying to chase down Leigh at the top of the Co-operative Championship.

Inconsistent Halifax will be boosted by parts of their performance against Bradford in last week’s Carnegie Challenge Cup tie, but there is still work to do.

Coach Matt Calland said: “Things haven’t been going well for us this season, but it’s going to turn for us.

“As long as we can keep healthy, I’m sure we’ll get a good run towards the play-offs, and I’m sure the boys will be up for this one.”

Coaching consultant Brian Noble joined Halifax in midweek and will watch Sunday’s match – a repeat of last year’s Grand Final – while dual-registration signing Jon Molloy could make his first appearance after a deal was agreed with Huddersfield.
