Paul brothers to conduct cup draw

Lance Todd Trophy winners Robbie and Henry Paul will conduct the draw for the quarter-finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Monday May 23.

The draw will be hosted by the BBC’s Tanya Arnold and will be screened live on the BBC1 regional news programme Look North between 6.30pm and 7.00pm from the Hall of Fame room at the RFL’s Red Hall HQ in Leeds. Television viewers from outside the Yorkshire region can watch the draw live on Channel 976 on their Sky tuner/digital receiver.

Robbie Paul made Challenge Cup history in 1996 when he became the first player to score a hat-trick of tries in a Wembley final in Bradford Bulls‘ defeat by St Helens. Robbie is currently a player with Co-operative Championship club Leigh Centurions and is a regular broadcaster with the BBC.

Henry Paul won his Lance Todd Trophy for an outstanding display in Bradford’s defeat of Leeds Rhinos at Murrayfield in 2000. The former Wigan and Harlequins player spent last season playing rugby union at Rotherham.

“It’s a great honour for myself and Henry to do the draw for a competition which means so much to both of us,” said Robbie, whose involvement in the 2011 Carnegie Challenge Cup ended when Leigh suffered a narrow defeat by in-form Catalan Dragons two weeks ago.

“It would have been good to have been involved in the Cup this weekend with Leigh but it wasn’t to be. Instead I’ll be watching the fifth round matches with keen interest because it looks like there are going to be some mouth-watering ties taking place.”

Tickets for the 2011 Carnegie Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday August 27 costs from £21 to £76 and are selling fast.
