Grix adds to Giants stability

Huddersfield full-back Scott Grix has become the latest Giant to commit his long term future to the club, signing a deal until the end of 2014.

Grix, 27, has made the number 1 jersey his own since the departure of Brett Hodgson, and he follows the likes of Kevin Brown, Danny Brough and Luke Robinson in committing his future to the club.

Managing Director Richard Thewlis said: “It was an aim of the club to get long term stability with high class players at hooker, both halves and full back for us and its tremendous news that Scott is staying and joining Luke Robinson, Shaun Lunt, Danny Brough and Captain Kevin Brown for the foreseeable future.

“I think everyone who has watched us this year would agree that his form has been superb and I am certain that he can get even better as time progresses and the combinations between our key men continue to flourish over time.”

Grix joined the Giants from Wakefield, having made the step up to Super League following an impressive National League 1 campaign with Widnes in 2007.

He said: “I am really happy that my future is sorted. The Giants are a club in a decent position to be challenging and I am happy that I have signed to be a part of this process. The decision was definitely made easier knowing that eighty per cent of this team will be here for the long term. This stability means that we can only improve as a team and hopefully challenge for some silverware.

“We are slowly but surely turning ourselves into a force and into a top four team but we need to keep our feet on the ground and keep doing the things we’ve done to get ourselves into this position and if we do that we won’t be far away.”

Halifax-born Grix played for Ireland at the 2008 World Cup, and has also played for Doncaster, Halifax and Leigh.
