Senior ruled out for the season

Long serving Leeds centre Keith Senior has been ruled out for the rest of the season after scans confirm he requires surgery on a knee injury.

Scans have confirmed that there is a tear to his cruciate ligament along with cartilage damage. Senior will have an operation at the start of June, but will be out of action for four to six months.

The 35 year old commented “I was devastated after the specialist confirmed the worst news. The injury is similar to the one that Kallum Watkins had last year and he was back in training after four months so that is my immediate goal after the surgery. Hopefully everything will go well and my aim is to return to playing next season.

“I text the rest of the team last night and it was great to have their support. I wish them all the best for the rest of the season. The fact that I am injured does not change our goals and objectives and I am sure they can bring silverware back to Headingley Carnegie this year”

Leeds coach Brian McDermott added “First and foremost, our thoughts are with Keith. He has outstanding for us this season both on and off the field. When we had our dip earlier in the season, Keith did everything possible to pull us through and since we have had an upturn in form, Keith has consistently been one of our top performers. We will make sure he gets the best possible medical care and our medical staff have a good track record in getting players back from this sort of injury.”

The Rhino’s currently have a number of backs on the injury list including Ben Jones-Bishop, Brent Webb, Kallum Watkins and Danny McGuire.
