Seeds steps down as Haven coach

Following Whitehaven’s 34-16 play-off defeat to Doncaster this afternoon, David Seeds announced that he would be stepping down as head coach.

Seeds, who is Haven’s record try scorer, said that he made the decision back in July and needed a break from the game. However he did state that he plans to return to rugby league in the future.

David was appointed head coach of the club for the 2011 season after Haven were relegated to Championship 1 and deducted -9 points for entering administration. Despite this set back, Seeds guided his side into the play-offs, but couldn’t quite take them to promotion at the first time of asking.

The Whitehaven legend scored 248 tries in his playing career for the West Cumbrian’s between 1993-2007, with Whitehaven been the only professional club he played for.

Rumours abound that Rob Purdham could be a target for Haven, perhaps in a player/coach capacity, with the Harlequins man already stating his intent to move back to the West Cumbria area.
