Halifax have moved to re-sign popular hooker Sean Penkywicz on a new one-year deal.

New Head Coach Karl Harrison was keen to snap up Welsh international “Penky’s a great leader and a very smart footballer.

“He has tremendous talent and makes it hard for the defence. Having someone like Sean in the side is a real bonus for any team. With the arrival of Anthony (Thackeray) and Paul (Handforth), the three of them should create an amazing pivot for us.”

Penkywicz arrived at Halifax for his second stint in 2007 and last season played 26 times, scoring 16 tries in the process in one of his most consistent seasons for the club.

Club Director Ian Croad said “He was high on our list, that’s for sure. He’s had a superb season and deserves the new deal, and Karl’s very excited to work alongside him.

“He’s a key player for us, and I think this, along with our other signings so far, shows everyone we are aiming for one thing in 2012, a return to the Grand Final.”
