Luther Burrell explains reasons for Warrington exit

Luther Burrell says the decision to cancel his Warrington contract by mutual consent was largely down to the lack of game time.

The 32-year-old hadn’t featured for the Wolves since the resumption of the Super League season on August 2 and is now seeking a way back into rugby union following his departure from Warrington.

Burrell said: “I want to be out there playing and I want to be adding some value to the team and when I’m not able to do that it’s not beneficial to me and it’s not beneficial to the group.

“I’m not a very negative person as it is but before I start potentially bringing morale down or beating myself up or having negative energy – I don’t have that, I’m quite a positive guy and if you speak the players then I’m sure they’d all back me up with that.

“The weight of not playing and going in day-to-day, you almost know you are not going to be playing. If the squad is winning and its a winning formula then how are you going to break into that?

“We have no reserves or other competitions for me to break through.”
