Luke Robinson wants Huddersfield job on permanent basis

Luke Robinson wants the Huddersfield head coach role on a permanent basis, after a successful start to his interim spell in charge.

Robinson, 36, led the Giants to a 29-6 win over Wakefield, their first win since the Super League restart, following the departure of Simon Woolford this week.

He said: “Everyone has aspirations to be a head coach and I’m just like everybody else.

“You never want to take it on under the circumstances I did but it’s a very proud moment for me.

“I believe in myself, I believe I am a good coach. It’s something I’ve always had an eye on. It’s something I did from 21 when I was coaching Siddal first team.

“Whether it happens here, that’s to be decided. I just got told I was going to be interim coach, that’s how it’s going to sit until I get told otherwise.

“My focus is to get us playing the type of rugby we were playing before lockdown. I think we’ve got a really good group who can compete with the big boys. Today’s result shows we’re a good rugby league team.”

The former Wigan and Salford scrum-half, who played more than 200 games for Huddersfield, joined the Giants backroom staff after being forced to retire through injury in 2016, and has been coaching with his local amateur club Siddal for the last 15 years.
