Paper Talk: Sutcliffe future, Saints aim for Super League & Havard tipped for huge future
We’ve had a look through the latest papers.
Sutcliffe future
Leeds utility Liam Sutcliffe’s future is still up in the air, reports The Yorkshire Post.
The 25-year-old is under contract until the end of 2021 but handed in a transfer request back in July. Sutcliffe told The Yorkshire Post: “There’s stuff going on in the background still. There’s nothing sorted yet. We’ll just see how it goes.”
Saints aim for Super League
James Roby says Saints will have to right their Challenge Cup wrongs in Super League this year, reports St Helens Star.
Roby told St Helens Star: “It’s all on Super League now – that is our only aim going forward. The games will come thick and fast and the end of the season will be upon us.”
Havard tipped for big future
Wigan coach Adrian Lam believes young prop Ethan Havard could become one of the best props in Super League, reports Wigan Today.
Lam told Wigan Today: “He’s only had one off-season with us in the first-team, so in a year or two he could be one of the best front-rowers in this competition.”
Leeming on Leeds win
Leeds hooker Kruise Leeming reckons the Rhinos are re-discovering their DNA, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.
On their 48-18 win over Hull KR in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals, Leeming told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We looked good, we scored some really good tries, which is back to Leeds’ DNA. It was a good win.”
Hull KR keen on Leeds forward
Hull KR are interested in signing young Leeds forward Muizz Mustapha, reports League Express.
The two clubs have held talks about a potential season-long loan for next season, according to League Express.
Ellis praises O’Loughlin
Gareth Ellis has heaped praise on Sean O’Loughlin and believes there is no reason why the Wigan skipper can’t play on in 2021, reports The Yorkshire Post.
In his column for The Yorkshire Post, Ellis wrote: “He is still so effective at what he does and he will be enjoying being part of a side that is still challenging. For him, until he gets to that point where he really has had enough of the game, he should carry on. At the minute, he’s playing in a team that is challenging which is always a nice incentive to carry on.”
