John Duffy signs new Leigh deal

Leigh Centurions have announced that popular half back/hooker John Duffy has penned a new deal with the club.

Duffy, who has made over 180 appearances for the Centurions, has previously had spells with Salford, Whitehaven and Widnes.

The 31-year-old appeared in 26 of Leigh’s 31 games last season, getting on the score-sheet five times in the process.

Commenting on the new deal, Duffy said “I’ve been chatting with Trevor and Keith over the last few weeks, I didn’t really want to leave the club.

“I had quite a few offers but I’ve got emotion built up with Leigh, the affiliation is still there and I wanted to do the club proud while it’s probably going to be my last season and just finish off where I’ve spent most of my better years.”

He continued, “The lads were gutted when they found out the club might go into admin, I know that quite a few players like myself went out of our way if we needed physio or surgery to not let it cost the club by going through different avenues. The local lads are very loyal and always will be to me and will do anything to help the club.”

“There are friendships and we’ve had that good of a team spirit and I’ve said this before, at other clubs it’s not the same as at Leigh. Its a massive family club and everyone is treated the same, there is a massive area of togetherness.

“All the lads are great and you can tell that, when the dual lads come in, they don’t want to go back to their Super League clubs because they are having that much fun with us.”

“Our team meetings have brought everyone together, the new lads that have signed, the younger lads that will be with us for the season and the older troop.”

“It will be a case of sticking with us, trusting what we do off the field and being one heartbeat together.”
