McCormack joins elite coaching group

Swinton Lions Head Coach Steve McCormack has joined an elite group of coaches by becoming a fully qualified level 4 coach.

McCormack will be awarded a Post-Graduate Diploma in Elite Coaching Practice on December 6th after completing his studies at the University of Central Lancashire

He joins former England England coach John Kear, England Academy coach Dave Elliott, Dave Rotheram, Stuart Wilkinson and Andy Proctor in receiving the qualification.

“It’s been one of the most difficult things I’ve done for a long, long time,” said McCormack

“It has involved a lot of elite coaches from other sports and we’ve been networking and swapping ideas.

“It’s been a really good two years and very challenging,”

It’s the highest qualification in the game and England coach Steve McNamara and Featherstone’s Daryl Powell among a second group set to graduate next year.

McCormack has also coached Whitehaven, Widnes, Gateshead and Barrow since his first job in charge of Super League Salford when he was just 28.

He said: “I’ve done it the wrong way round really. I got my first Super League job at a very young age.

“It was a difficult time for myself and the club. I learned lessons the hard way. If I knew then what I know now it might have been different.

“But I’m quite proud of what I’ve achieved and I still have ambitions to achieve a few more things as well.”
