Gorski out of Widnes clash

Andy Gorski is out of Swinton’s friendly against Widnes Vikings at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday (3pm).

The experienced back-row forward is recovering after treatment on both Achilles and will miss the club’s opening game of the 2012 campaign against the Super League new boys.

Coach Steve McCormack expects a tough test for his players as they prepare for life in the Championship.

“It’s our first hit out, our first bit of proper contact,” he said.

“Expectation-wise we are playing against a Super League club again and knowing Widnes as I do they will put the full strength team out.

“It’s a massive ask putting our part time lads up against their full-time lads.

“But as always we’ll prepare really well and it gives us a chance to blow some cobwebs off.”

McCormack expects a good crowd for Swinton’s first game at Leigh Sports Village, their temporary home.

He said: “We are training there for the first time on Thursday and it’s one of the best surfaces you can play on and off the field the facilities are first class for the supporters.

“There will be a big crowd because Widnes will bring a lot of supporters.

“It’s exciting to be playing at Leigh and three-quarters of our players are ex-Leythers anyway so they probably know the place better than anyone.”

Tickets are available online from the ticket office at Leigh on www.leighsportsvillage.co.uk/tickets or by phoning 01942 487888.

They are priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions and £2 for children.
