Malta international heads to Whitehaven
Whitehaven have signed Malta international prop Dean Zammit.
Zammit, 27, came through the junior ranks at Penrith Panthers and came to the UK at the beginning of 2020, playing amateur rugby league for Wigan St Patricks while awaiting his Maltese passport.
He said: “I just wanted to experience something different. It’s a different type of game over here. I’ve had a go in France before but really fancied giving the English game a go. I can’t wait to get going, get ripped into pre-season and meet all the lads.”
Zammit has nine caps for Malta, who he qualifies for through his father’s parents.
Coach Gary Charlton said: “I’m really pleased with Dean, what I’ve seen of him. He’s a good aggressive player, loves an offload. He brings different things to the team that we didn’t have last year.”
