We’ve had a scan through the latest papers.
Salford up for the Cup
Salford director Ian Blease is relishing Salford success against the odds after the Red Devils ended their Wembley drought, reports the Mirror.
Blease told the Mirror: “Getting to the Grand Final was a massive achievement but this feels even more so because it’s the Challenge Cup for some reason. Wembley has got the glitz and the glamour – the history of the cup makes it special in rugby league.”
Dual-reg to be scrapped?
The dual-registration rule is set to be scrapped ahead of the return of the Championship and League 1 next season, reports League Express.
Dual-registration is set to be taken away from the game on medical grounds and issues surrounding coronavirus and players coming and going out of different environments each week, according to League Express.
Hull to use break wisely
Hull FC interim coach Andy Last to make the most of ‘much-needed’ break ahead of final Super League push, reports Hull Live.
Hull’s next game is scheduled for October 14. Last told Hull Live: “I think it is five games in 16 days so the full depth of our squad will be used again and the mentality and resolve will be tested. We’ve got that to work on and we’ll be able to work on that in the next 10 days and give it a polish from an execution point of view.”
Wells injury update
Wigan forward Jack Wells’ knee injury is more serious than first thought after he left the field in Tuesday’s 42-0 defeat to St Helens, reports Wigan Today.
Warriors coach Adrian Lam told Wigan Today: “It’s bad news for Jack, he’s dislocated his kneecap and torn his MCL in the tackle from last week’s game. He’s going to be out for up to three months.”
Salford earn high praise
Hull FC forward Gareth Ellis says Salford have set the example by reaching Wembley, reports The Yorkshire Post.
In his column for The Yorkshire Post, Ellis wrote: “They seem a much more stable club off it now and there’s rewards for consistency on the pitch where they just keep going.”
