Wakefield 16-20 St Helens: Lachlan Coote brace helps Saints beat Trinity
St Helens full-back Lachlan Coote bagged a brace to help his side edge past Wakefield 20-16 at Headingley.
Wakefield got off to a great start as Alex Walker and Craig Kopczak scored to give Chris Chester’s side a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes.
But Saints started to come into their own in the latter stages of the first half, with Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Coote scoring. Coote could only convert one of the tries, so Wakefield led 12-10 at half-time.
Kristian Woolf’s side took the lead for the first time in the 62nd minute when winger Regan Grace barged over in the corner.
Great Britain and Scotland international Coote got his second in the 68th minute, putting the game just out of reach for Wakefield. He converted his own effort.
Wakefield scored a try in the final minute of the game through Matty Ashurst but it was Saints who finished 20-16 winners.
