Crusaders to use iPitch at Widnes

Due to the expected bad weather this weekend, North Wales Crusaders have been advised by the groundstaff at the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium that the likelihood is the pitch will not be playable.

Therefore, facing the prospect of cancelling the fixture – North Wales Crusaders have reached an agreement with Widnes Vikings and Halton Borough Council at the Stobart Stadium on the brand new i-pitch, which takes its Super League debut tonight (Friday).

Whilst the preferred choice would be to play the fixture at the Racecourse, the preparation of the team for the coming season had to come first.

Crusaders’ chief executive Jamie Thomas said: “Unfortunately it’s come down to a simple choice of cancel the fixture all together or play at Widnes and as back up options go this is a fantastic one. It will be exciting to play on the iPitch and is not too far for the fans to travel. I hope we can encourage as many of the Crusaders fans to come down and support the team, who desperately needed the game time in preparation for March 11th.

“Whilst it’s going to cost us quite a fair amount to move the fixture, I’m completely behind Clive in the need to get the game on. I’d just like to appeal to the fans to make the journey to Widnes to support the boys, to make it as much a home atmosphere as possible.”

Entry to the game will be £5, including Season Ticket holders, but under 12’s will be free. Season Ticket holders will now be able to use their remaining ‘special voucher’ for a further pre-season match before the end of February.

Kick off will remain at 1pm – with parking available at the Stobart Stadium itself.
