Carney confident in Sharks

Todd Carney is confident Cronulla are capable of bouncing back from last weekend’s dramatic late defeat at Wests Tigers when they take on Newcastle on Sunday.

Carney was instrumental in helping the Sharks almost pull off a shock result against the Tigers, who snatched a golden point 17-16 win thanks to a Benji Marshall field goal.

But former Canberra and Roosters playmaker Carney is fully focused on getting the result against Newcastle, who also fell to golden point defeat in the last round, to St George.

“We can’t dwell on that going into Newcastle because teams have done that in the past,” said Carney.

“Newcastle lost in golden point as well and they had a big slog too, so it’s for us to worry about our own job and I think we have really worked hard and had a good week at training.”

Despite only making one appearance for the club, Carney says he feels right at home in the Sutherland shire.

“I was pretty comfortable when I came to the Sharks, I already knew a few players,” he said.

“Our combinations are only going to get better, I’ll get used to their games and they’ll get used to mine.

“Outside of footy, everyone in the Cronulla area has been great, the reception has been really good.

“For me, there isn’t too much pressure, I go about my business like every other player who has the same goal as me.

“We have a good culture here which is great and only going to help things on the park.”
