Millward back at Castleford
Castleford coach Ian Millward has thanked the rugby league community for their support, after returning to work earlier this week.
Millward has been on leave following the tragic death of his 19-year-old son Robbie on February 19th.
In a statement, the former St Helens, Wigan and Leigh coach said: “My family and I are still grieving over the tragic loss of Robbie. We all regarded him as a special young man. He was extremely well liked and much loved by all who knew him.
As his father, I want to place on record my appreciation to Castleford Tigers, the RFL and the guidance of Steve Ball from the RFL Benevolent Fund. I would like to personally thank all of those who have sent messages of condolence and support. They have been a source of comfort and strength to us all.
“Rugby League is a true family and I am proud and grateful to be part of it.”
He is back in the hotseat at Castleford in time for their televised Super League clash with Huddersfield on Friday night.
The Tigers haven’t won in his absence, and are without a win since the first round of the season, when they defeated Salford 24-10.
Millward’s assistant Stuart Donlan was in charge for the home defeats to Wigan and Leeds, and he also oversaw last weekend’s surprise 42-16 drubbing at the hands of London Broncos.
