Irish star Ronan Michael set to make Super League debut on Friday

Irishman Ronan Michael is set to make his Super League debut for Huddersfield against Wigan on Friday night.

The prop, who hails from Ballbriggan in Ireland, linked up with Huddersfield’s first team last year after signing a full-time contract with the club. He paid his own fare to have trials with the Giants three years ago.

Michael only took up rugby league in 2017, playing for Longhorns RL in Ashbourne before being selected for his country in the 2018 European Championships.

He has spent time in Canberra Raiders’ Under-20s this year before returning to parent club Huddersfield.

Michael has been named in Luke Robinson’s squad to face Wigan on Friday night, and is set to make his Super League debut. He has earned four caps for Ireland so far.

Robinson said: “It’s probably been mentioned numerous times that he paid for his own flight and he’s been doing things like cleaning windows.

“He’s done everything that’s been asked of him. He turns up to training with an infectious smile. One thing you’ll never lack with him is determination and enthusiasm.”
