Sea Eagles retain Cherry-Evans

Daly Cherry-Evans has put to bed speculation about his future by signing an improved three-year deal with Manly.

Cherry-Evans reportedly requested a release from his Sea Eagles contract less than two weeks ago, amid rumours he was unhappy with his $85,000-a-year salary.

But the Manly management have moved swiftly to secure the services of last season’s Dally M Rookie of the Year, persuading him to sign until the end of 2015.

The deal is worth a reputed $500,000 a year.

“Manly gave me my start in the NRL and I love it here,” said 23-year-old halfback.

“I get the opportunity to play with so many committed, talented players and it’s great to know I’ll be here for years to come.”

After a helping Manly to their eighth premiership title last year, 23-year-old Cherry-Evans made his debut for Australia in the Four Nations Tournament, scoring a try against Wales.

Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey meanwhile was delighted to see Cherry-Evans pledge his future to the Brookvale club.

“Daly was a big part of our success last year and we haven’t see the best of him yet,” said Toovey.

“He’s a superstar of the future and with the quality players he has around him, we can continue our winning formula.”
