Duffy calls for more consistency at London

Leigh Centurions captain John Duffy has called upon his side to be more consistent, starting with a win over London Skolars on Saturday.

Leigh have suffered two consecutive defeats in the opening rounds of the Championship, but Duffy is not too downhearted having lost early matches to Batley and Featherstone.

He said: “They were two really tough games and hopefully they can put us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“We’re all really digging in and there is a fantastic opportunity this weekend down at London to turn that tide a little bit and get a bit of confidence back.”

Leigh travel to the Ne River Stadium to face London Skolars in the third round of the Challenge Cup, and Duffy expects his side to gain confidence from a strong win.

He said: “To be honest they’re playing really well they have a great coach in Joe Mbu down there and they racked up some points up last week so we’ll have to be on our guard. 

“The lads have had a bit of a bash up this week at training due to us losing two in a row and we can’t wait to get down there.”

Duffy also praised Centurions coach Paul Rowley for stepping in at the last minute when off field problems prevented the Centurions board from brining in an outsider to coach the team.

Duffy said: “It has been fantastic with Paul. He has taken it upon himself to coach the side when there was no one else. 

“We’re a new team with some really young guys and we probably need to be more consistent. We’re training really hard and Paul’s done a fantastic job coaching.”
