Campese rues missed chances

Terry Campese says missed chances cost Canberra in the match with North Queensland on Monday.

The Raiders crashed to a 22-6 defeat at home to the Cowboys and skipper Campese admits being disappointed at his team’s performance.

“We were very disappointed to play like that at home, in front of our home fans – its not what we worked for all week,” Campese said after the game.

Campese also admits that the Cowboys surprised the Raiders with their tenacity in the forward battle.

“They won the ground battle in attack and defence and we were on the back foot for most of that first half,” said Campese.

“It’s hard, whoever wins the ground tends to win the battle.”

He added: “We had chances early on their line, but couldn’t convert.

“It felt like drop ball after drop ball out there at stages and we gave classy players like Thurston and Bowen way too much ball.”

Campese’s men will have a chance to put the result when they host the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday.
