Leigh sign Matty Russell from Toronto Wolfpack
Leigh have signed Matty Russell from Toronto Wolfpack, following on from the signing of Nathaniel Peteru from Hull KR.
Russell, 27, had a brief spell on dual-registration with the Centurions back in 2012 while at Wigan, and has also played in Super League for Warrington.
He said: “I am very grateful for this chance with Leigh Centurions. It has been a disaster of a year but now I’m looking forward to a new challenge in 2021.
“It’s exciting to see which players are coming in for next year and it’s clearly a squad that has Super League potential. I know a lot of the players and coaching staff at Leigh – I don’t think there’s anyone here that I haven’t played alongside or against.”
Former Leeds prop Peteru, 28, follows Ryan Brierley from Hull KR to the Leigh Sports Village, along with Toulouse’s James Bell.
Coach John Duffy said: “We’re trying to build the best squad we possibly can despite the current circumstances and it’s very exciting when you look and who we’ve got in our ranks at present.
“I was lucky to work with Nate when I was at Featherstone and he’s a great professional having coming through the NRL systems. He has a young family and I’m sure they’ll be made to feel very welcome by the people of Leigh.”
