Haughey makes Hunslet return

Forward Tommy Haughey has returned to Hunslet from York, after admitting he made a mistake leaving south Leeds in the first place.

Haughey, 30, was a stand-out performer for the Hawks in a two year spell with the club, scoring 20 tries in 50 appearances, before leaving in November to sign for the City Knights.

He now returns to Hunslet, having ironically played his last game for York in their 20-6 against the Hawks on Easter Sunday.

Director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “Tommy has rejoined the club until the end of the season, by his own admission for differing reasons it’s not worked out for him at York and he admitted he made a mistake leaving the club in the first place.

“Just like Danny Grimshaw we welcome him back to the club and hope he can again start to enjoy his rugby which will enable his performances to improve. We know what Tommy is capable of on his day and under Barry and the coaching staff were pretty adamant that he will recapture his form and put pressure on the other back rowers currently at the club.”

Haughey previously played for Featherstone and was a former team-mate of York player-coach Chris Thorman at London Broncos.

A York statement read: “Things have not worked out for him during his time with the club.”
