Soward primed for ‘special’ match

The traditional ANZAC Day clash between St George and the Sydney Roosters is always a ‘special day’, according to Jamie Soward.

The teams are level on points after notching four wins each so far this season, although the Dragons have enjoyed more success in the match in recent years.

“We’ve had success against them the past number of years and it’s such a special day for everyone involved,” said Soward of the April 25 clash.

“For us to be able to showcase our talents on such a special day is an honour and I’m thankful to all the service people for allowing us to live the life we live.

“Hopefully we get a big crowd there and it would be nice for the majority of the crowd to be wearing the red and white colours.

“The most important thing for me at the moment is representing the Dragons which has always been number one.”

Soward missed out on selection for Country Origin team after being pipped by Cronulla’s Todd Carney leaving his chances of representing NSW in tatters.

But the 27-year-old playmaker is more concerned with helping the Dragons repeat their 2010 premiership success.

“If I don’t get a representative jersey this year on in the future then I know I’ve had that opportunity before and will look on towards October,” he added.

“I would love to get another ring.”
