Scorpions hook up with Swansea City
Swansea City FC and South Wales Scorpions have linked up so that Swans fans can watch professional Rugby League during the summer for a discount price.
South Wales Scorpions play their home games out of The Gnoll ground in Neath. They are South Wales’ only professional Rugby League side and they compete in the Cooperative Championship 1 league, a similar ranking to League One in football, and they have already produced a number of full Welsh internationals.
Their aim this season is promotion to the Championship and they are hoping that as many Swans fans as possible will be able to get down to The Gnoll this summer to cheer them on.
The Scorpions’ next home game is on Sunday 20th May when they take on Rochdale Hornets with a 3pm kick-off and they have provided a great deal for Swansea fans.
Anyone who presents their Swansea City season ticket, Liverpool match ticket or a print-out of their Jack Army membership at the turnstiles on Sunday 20th May, will get into the match for only £5, discounted from the regular price of £12.
Senior Citizens, students and children aged 12 and over will be admitted for just £2.50 on presentation of any of the above, while any paying adult can take up to two children aged 11 and under into the big match at The Gnoll for free.
South Wales Scorpions’ head coach Dave Clark, a Wales international in 2004, said: “We’re delighted that we can make this offer to Swansea City fans and we hope that this will be the start of a major link between our two clubs.
“Thousands have enjoyed Swansea’s first season in the Premier League and we hope that with this offer, many of you will now come to watch us at The Gnoll during the summer football season break, as we go for promotion. We look forward to welcoming you to our home match against Rochdale on Sunday 20th May and I hope we can put on a good display for you.
“We’d like to thank Swansea City Football Club for all the help that they have given us so far in advertising this new link-up.”
Swansea City vice chairman Leigh Dineen said: “We are always ready to assist other clubs and other sports in the area wherever possible. South Wales Scorpions are an up and coming Rugby League club that are full of Welsh pride and, from what I’ve heard so far, are full of ambition to do well to further strength sport in our country. I’d like to wish them well in their quest for promotion this year.
“Swansea City are always looking to offer their season ticket holders added value to their package and I strongly encourage all of our fans to take up South Wales Scorpions’ offer and support them on May 20th when they take on Rochdale at The Gnoll in Neath.
“All the best to the Scorpions for that game and for the season as a whole.”
