Warrington not saving themselves, says Briers

Lee Briers insists Warrington are not underperforming in order to save themselves for the business end of the season.

Warrington finished top of the league last season after 27 Super League rounds but failed to reach the Grand Final, let alone win the competition, after a play off semi final defeat to Leeds.

Briers says that performing to a mediocre standard would be a dangerous game to play.

He said: “We need to play well right now and get consistency because that brings confidence. It’s nearly a year ago since we lost that play off match, and it has been committed to the memory.

“We would probably say we’re just about satisfied with the season so far. We know there is a long way to go and hopefully there will be some improvement in us.

“We all say we can do better, even my school teachers used to put in my reports ‘could do better’ and on the outside people are saying that we’re not playing to the best of our ability. But we know where we need to get better, and if we’ve not hit our straps when we’re second in the league and semi final of the cup imagine when we do hit our straps.”
