Win down to forwards: Marshall

Benji Marshall has credited the Wests Tigers forwards with laying the foundations for Friday night’s narrow victory over Melbourne.

Marshall, who was standing in as captain for Robbie Farah, was instrumental in guiding the Tigers to a narrow 10-6 victory in atrocious conditions at AAMI Park.

But speaking after match, he paid tribute to his team mates up front.

“It is very easy to switch off and not try to prepare as best as you usually do,’’ Marshall told the club website.

“Winning games always builds confidence but at the same time we still have got things to improve on.

“It will be good to get Robbie back but our forwards have been outstanding and are really carrying us through.”

Winger Beau Ryan turned in a man-of-the-match peformance, putting on a faultless defensive display after being moved to full-back due to a last minute injury to Tim Moltzen.

And the popular TV funnyman was frank about his responsibilities.

“I don’t have to prove anything to anyone except to my team-mates and to my coach. I’m comfortable with the role I’ve got and everyone is very excited with the way we are playing,’’ Ryan said.

“We got shot down by a few people but our fans stuck with us and that’s all we are worried about.”
