Davy realistic about Giants prices

Huddersfield chairman Ken Davy admits the club will have to revert back to “more normal pricing levels” on tickets for next season.

Season tickets at the Galpharm Stadium were available for as little as £50 for 2012, to watch a team that has finished in Super League‘s top five for the last three seasons, as well as appearing in two Challenge Cup finals in the past six years.

The Giants have seen average attendances climb from 4,750 in their first season back in the top flight in 2003, to a peak of 7,820 in 2008, and this season’s average of 7,039 is marginally better than last season’s final figure of 6,994.

But, as the club continues to spend up to the salary cap, and in light of the financial issues that are gripping Bradford at the moment, Davy is realistic about the future.

Writing in his programme notes ahead of the game against London Broncos at the weekend, he said: “It’s a problem that we at Huddersfield are only too aware of and wrestle with on a daily basis.

“We will soon be announcing our pricing for the 2013 season and it is clear that after this season’s outstanding and successful special offer, we will be reverting to more normal pricing levels.

“In a nutshell, the club has to generate more income so as to get closer to a position of self sustainability and avoid the problems that we have emerge elsewhere.”

Huddersfield have a chance to appear in another Challenge Cup final, when they take on Warrington in next month’s semi-final at the City of Salford Stadium.

And their coffers were boosted recently when they received a transfer fee from Widnes for captain Kevin Brown, who will join the Vikings from next season.
