Foxen joins Oldham on loan

Swinton winger Rob Foxen has joined Oldham on a month’s loan.

The 24-year-old former Folly Lane and Salford City Reds academy player will be in contention for an early debut at Whitehaven on Sunday (3pm).

Roughyeds have three games in the next month – against Whitehaven, London Skolars at home and South Wales Scorpions away.

Chairman Chris Hamilton said: “He’s strong and aggresive with plenty of experience, and he’ll certainly take us forward.”

Coach Tony Benson was keen to acquire another winger because John Gillam hurt a foot in Sunday’s home defeat by Rochdale Hornets and on-loan winger Chris Holroyde was transferred back to Halifax last week.

Foxen can play in the forwards, but he is known to prefer the wing.

While Foxen was on his way into the Roughyeds’ camp, Lewis Reed was on his way out.

When his initial loan from Keighley Cougars was up after a month he was re-signed on a match-by-match basis, but Cougars have now recalled the utility forward, as is their right.

Leeds Rhinos pair Colton Roche and Daniel Smith, both at Oldham on dual-registration, were in the Rhinos squad against London Broncos and Cumbria in last night’s 9s finals at Headingley.
