Adamson happy at North Wales
New North Wales Crusaders signing Toby Adamson believes that the Wrexham side can push Workington Town all the way this Sunday at the Racecourse Stadium (kick-off 2.30pm).
The 22-year old former Salford City Reds Super League player is due to play his third game for the club this Sunday and he believes that, despite Workington inflicting the highest league score on the Crusaders this season when they met up in Cumbria in April, that the roles can be reversed this time around.
“It should be a good game,” Adamson said. “Workington have got quite a few good players, notably Jamie Thackray at prop. If we can control him and win the battle in the middle of the field then hopefully we can get a bonus point at least and challenge for a win.
“I think we should have done better than we did last Sunday at Barrow. If we can improve on that, we’ll be pushing for a win especially if we get a good home crowd. They’re an outstanding bunch of fans here. One of my mates had told me all about them but experiencing them for myself was a different thing. They’re like an 18th man to us.”
Adamson, whose brother Luke still plays for Salford, initially quit the professional Rugby League ranks to complete his law degree at the University of Liverpool, but now this has finished, he is grateful to Crusaders for giving him a chance mid-season and intends to repay the club.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “I want to stick around next season too if I’m offered a contract.
“Clive Griffiths and John Fieldhouse were good enough to give me an opportunity to get back into the game at a good level so I’m going to take it with both hands and reward them, starting with this Sunday.
“We’re all settling in now. We’re improving every week and there’s a lot of competition for places. I think we’ll do well this Sunday, we’re certainly all up for it.”
