Grand Final’s battle of the backs excites Jon Wells
Sky Sports pundit Jon Wells is excited to see Bevan French and Lachlan Coote go head-to-head in Friday’s Super League Grand Final.
Reigning champions St Helens and League Leaders’ Shield winners Wigan will meet in the Grand Final at Hull’s KCOM Stadium on Friday night.
Wells is excited see Wigan’s French and Saints’ Coote go up against each other in a battle of the full-backs.
He said: “I want myself down as one of the key members of the Lachlan Coote fan club. I think he is an outstanding player, he is everything that the modern day player epitomises and I think his opposite number Bevan French is somebody who has brought great excitement to Super League.
“They are two athletes for very different reasons. Lachlan Coote is an athlete but there is an awful lot going on upstairs.
“Bevan French has got motors in his heels. There is something different biomechanically about him that we don’t see in many other athletes.
“So for those armchair viewers who might not watch an awful lot of rugby league… one: it is our showpiece event, two: the best players are on show and three: in Lachlan Coote and Bevan French, you have got two of the very best exponents in either code of rugby in either hemisphere playing on Friday.”
Wells hopes retiring Saints prop James Graham will overcome concussion protocol ahead of Friday’s big dance.
Wells added: “The guy is an absolute legend and has been a great contributor to Super League in both hemisphere.”
