Community game receives £10m in grants thanks to World Cup
Organisers of the 2021 World Cup have marked the 12-month countdown to the final by distributing £10million in large grants to the community game.
Victoria Park ARLFC in Warrington, which will host the bulk of the Physical Disability World Cup, has been given £600,000 for the creation of a new 3G pitch, while the other major recipients are Thatto Heath Crusaders in St Helens and Siddal, of Halifax.
World Cup chief executive Jon Dutton said: “With exactly a year to go until our finals at Old Trafford, our social impact programme is really making a difference.
“As a tournament with a purpose, we are dedicated to using the next 12 months to continue this much-needed investment programme through the pledge the UK Government has made to the tournament.”
Sport England director of property Charles Johnston said: “In working to ensure the legacy of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 is as impactful as possible, it is brilliant to see more life-changing investments into community clubs and organisations within the regions which will play a part in hosting the event.”
