Soward disappointed with Dragons

St George playmaker Jamie Soward said a series of mistakes cost his side in the defeat to South Sydney at the weekend.

Two tries in the opening ten minutes from the Rabbitohs stunned the Dragons, and despite a brace of scores from Brett Morris, the visitors were no match for the home side, eventually succumbing to a 36-14 defeat.

Soward, who returned in the match after missing last week’s victory over Cronulla, couldn’t hide his disappointment however.

“Our performance overall was disappointing; it was very poor in both halves,” Soward told the Dragons’ official website.

“Mistakes early on in sets cost us, and when you’re winning, you don’t make those mistakes.

“We made those mistakes against the Rabbitohs and all of a sudden it snowballed.”

The Dragons lost backs Matt Cooper and Jason Nightingale to injury while back-rower Dean Young was stretchered off after being hit it the head by Greg Inglis‘ shoulder.

But Soward believes it was mistakes, rather than injuries, that were the most costly.

“The turning point for us was all the little errors we made on the first, second and third tackles, because we didn’t build any pressure,” added Soward.

“At times, when we get it right, it looks good, but it’s a tough competition, and you have to execute every week to compete.”
