St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus praises all Super League players
St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus says we should take our hats off to all Super League players are a tough year in the sport.
The 2020 Super League season finally came to a conclusion on Friday night as Saints retained their champions tag by beating Wigan 8-4 at Hull’s KCOM Stadium.
Like all sport in 2020, rugby league has had to face adversity but Super League battled through to finish the season – and McManus was full of praise for all players in Super League who have gone above and beyond this year.
McManus said: “I just want to say to all the players in Super League and rugby league for what they have done this year.
“They have played with major salary cuts, an extended season for two months, Covid restrictions throughout and they have been more dedicated and more professional than any season I’ve noted and we should all take our hats off to them.”
On the behind closed doors Grand Final, McManus commented: “There was five of us allowed in here tonight but it felt like 50,000.
“We were shouting on behalf of all our fans as the Wigan people were. It was an unusual arena to put it mildly but in its own way it stands out as a result of that and it just shows that rugby league, even without a crowd, is a remarkable sport.”
