Ferres fitting in at Huddersfield

Huddersfield new boy Brett Ferres said his transfer to the Giants was an easy decision to make and that it was too good an offer to turn down.

The forward, was Head Coach Paul Anderson’s first signing, putting pen to paper with a three-and-a-half-year deal from Castleford Tigers just before the Super League transfer deadline expired back in July.

Along with Kieron Purtill, Ferres has brought a new lease of life into the Giants squad as they are undefeated in their last two games with wins over Catalan and Salford.

The ex-Bradford and Wakefield man told Love Rugby League his reasons for the move to the Giants.

He said: “I was off contract at the end of the year and really wanted to challenge myself. The offer to play for Huddersfield was too good to turn down.

“There were other options but I was pleased and impressed with Huddersfield so it was quite an easy decision.

“The quality within the squad has impressed me the most and the way they have all welcomed me in.”

The West Yorkshire outfit have recently endured a poor run of form in Super League. 

Before the two victories they had only won once in ten attempts, which led to parting company early with former boss Nathan Brown.

Brown was due to leave the Galpharm Stadium to take over at St Helens at the end of the campaign.

Ferres explained what it has been like working with Anderson and what needs to be rectified if Huddersfield are going to continue their resurgence up the table.

He said: “I think he’s a smart guy and a knowledgeable coach. He is a really approachable and honest guy.

“We just need to keep working hard and get wins, then that will create some confidence within the squad.

“I expect us to do very well; we just need to find some form going into the play-offs then anything can happen.”

The forward notched up his first try for the Giants in their 30-20 win over Salford City Reds at the weekend.
