O’Meley earns new Hull deal

Former Australia prop Mark O’Meley has been handed a one-year contract extension by Hull.

O’Meley, 31, was out of contract at the end of the year but has been rewarded with a new deal following an impressive end to the season.

He said: “I had some decisions to make as we came towards the end of the season, which included the potential to head home with the family, but it just didn’t seem like the right time to be leaving.

“Other clubs made offers too, but I’m settled here, I enjoy playing for the club and I’m really excited about what the future holds.”

O’Meley has scored 10 tries in 61 appearances for the Airlie Birds since signing for the club in 2010.

Head Coach Peter Gentle said: “I think Mark has proven to everyone in recent weeks that he is more than deserving of a new deal with the club and shown us all the passion and enthusiasm he brings to our side.

“He’s been a committed, hard hitting front rower all his career and he still packs a significant punch, which will complement our forward line next season.”

The former New South Wales State of Origin forward played for North Sydney, Northern Eagles, Canterbury Bulldogs and Sydney Roosters in the NRL, making more than 200 appearances.

Having also played for City Origin, O’Meley added to his representative honours by turning out for the Exiles against England last season.
