Featherstone have completed the permanent signing of Wakefield hooker Andy Ellis on a two-year deal.

Ellis, 27, spent time on loan with Rovers in 2012, making seven appearances, before being recalled by the Wildcats for their end of season run-in following an injury to Paul Aiton.

Head Coach Daryl Powell said: “Andy spent some time with us this season which gave both us and him an opportunity to see how he fits into the way we play. He is a proven player both in the Championship and Super League competitions as his last eight appearances for Wakefield showed.

“His signing gives us strength in depth in all positions, with Ben Kaye playing outstanding rugby league this year. Andy’s signing gives us great options at hooker.”

The former Barrow hooker, who was Championship Player of the Year in 2009, moved to Super League with Harlequins in 2010, before making the switch to Belle Vue ahead of the 2011 season.

He said: “I’m happy to be joining Featherstone Rovers on a permanent basis. It’s a great team with great lads and fantastic supporters. I look forward to working with everyone next year and hope I can contribute to another fantastic year. Good luck to everyone this coming weekend in the Grand Final, It’s a well deserved end to an awesome season and lets hope we retain our title!”

Ellis started his career at Hull KR, and led Barrow to Championship glory and the Northern Rail Cup final in 2009.
