Chev Walker pens new Bradford deal

Chev Walker has become Francis Cummins’ first signing as Bradford coach.

Walker, 29, has penned a new one-year deal at Odsal, having made 16 appearances for the club in 2012.

He said: “Becoming a dad, another year’s contract gives me a bit of security but I wanted to stay at Bradford regardless. I’ve said before that being happy at home makes me happy at work, and I’m really happy on both fronts with Lauren giving birth to Lincoln and then agreeing a new deal at Bradford.  

“There was interest from elsewhere but signing for the Bulls was definitely my first choice. I absolutely love it here and have been made to feel really welcome from day one.

“I can see the club going places and I feel part of things here.”

Walker started his career at Leeds before switching codes to play rugby union for Bath.

He returned to Super League with Hull KR in September 2007, and then moved to Bradford ahead of the 2011 season.

Bulls coach Cummins said: “Chev is just the sort of person we need for this environment.  He will certainly help take us forward and has a big part to play in what we want to do. He has had some injury problems but hopefully they are all behind him and he can kick on next season.”

Cummins, himself a former Leeds player, was appointed as Bradford coach earlier this month following the departure of Mick Potter.
